Now that my kids are headed back to school it’s time to get back to schedules and routines and say goodbye to flying by the seat of my pants suppers. One of the things I struggle with is what to make for dinner each night. I try to find meal ideas I can stretch into other meals to save money and time. I have experimented and come up with some tried and true favorites my family enjoys, not only the first time I serve it but also the next couple of reincarnations as well

Kermit the frog said it best when he sang us his song “It’s not easy being green…” This can definitely be true when trying to make our homes environmentally friendly. There is so much misinformation out there on what is and what isn’t “green.” Trying to decipher it is a daunting task. Let’s look at some of the simpler and more basic aspects of being green-ish for your home.

Now that I have returned to the work force after being a stay at home mom for 10 years, my house tends to look like a bomb was detonated inside of it. This is especially true around the laundry room and common areas like the living room/dining room areas. Toys, clothes and dirty dishes multiply and spread like weeds while I am at work. Time to enlist the smallest of soldiers into my housekeeping army and delegate duties, as a good general would in this war against the household chores.

As the summer winds down and we prepare to get our kiddos ready to go back to school let’s take a moment to reflect. Today is my first day back to work after a wonderful week long vacation in the Bahamas. They don’t call it the "Baham-ahhhs" for nothing. I had an amazing time filled with many “ahhh, this is the life” moments. Now that I am back to reality I am going to recapture some of those moments by using my 5 senses to recreate feelings of tropical relaxation in my own home.

I only got through my four year olds room and still haven’t recovered! After a quick break for smelling salts, it's now onward and upward my friends because our home is full of untapped storage opportunities just waiting for us to utilize.

I am a firm believer in karma. You see examples of it every day, and usually in every Disney movie. Every time the good guys wins or the bad guy gets his, it’s karma in action. Karma is defined by Google “as (in Hinduism and Buddhism) the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.” Which to me means if you do good things, good things come back to you and if you do bad things, the bad things come back to you. Makes sense, right? In keeping with this philosophy I always strive to be a better person and try and give back some of the good I have be blessed with in my own life and keep my karma on a positive path. Let’s take a look at some EZ ways to give back.

I put my first born, thirteen year old daughter on a plane yesterday to travel back east to see family and friends for a few weeks. It was bittersweet because I know she will have a blast but worry about her traveling alone. I must say the airport personnel at LAX were amazing and went above and beyond in customer service. They gave my family the VIP treatment by allowing us to take her all the way to the gate and get her settled. After a bumpy flight she is now safely enjoying her summer vacation with her family and friends. Her trip and an upcoming one I am going on has got me thinking about packing and how I can make this daunting task easier.
