Non Toxic Ways To Cleaning Your Home

Apr 19, 2013 9:31:58 AM

Everything we do and surround ourselves has an effect on us. Whether it is people, or substances, sometimes it is good to rethink our habits and replace them with healthier habits. I too have to take this advice. Today there is more and more talk about toxicity in the items we use. Many resources today such as TV, magazines, and blogs, speak to this. What we clean with can have lasting consequences on our health. The reason I am waking up to this knowledge is I wondered if somehow I contributed to my cat’s cancer. I recalled using Lysol and beach a lot to clean up after her. She stayed primarily in my room the last year of her life. I looked online to find that Lysol was very toxic to animals. Well yea, they are closest to the ground and their paws directly touch the surfaces we clean with these cleaners.

Okay, you want to spruce up your living space. How are you supposed to know what colors to use without any experience? Sure, if your familiar with artistic expression and have been exposed to many different settings or have taken art classes then you have picked up some skills to help you. But what about the rest of us who want to have our home look spectacular and pleasing to not only our eyes, but our visitors as well?

So you want to redecorate but you don’t know where to start? The first thing is to know what style you want. If you are not sure, browse through design magazines such as Elle Décor or Architectural Digest. What do you like? Do you like Modern, Contemporary, Eclectic, Traditional, or Shabby Chic? Put together a collage of pictures that peak your interest. Decide what specifically you like within these designs.

History of Modern Furniture

Apr 10, 2013 10:25:13 AM

Modern design in furniture was made possible through the Industrial Revolution when new technology became available. Built primarily for function, modern furniture is comprised of plastic (pvc), glass, stainless steel, metal, and chrome. Some of the natural materials are wood, leather, teak, and linen. The colors used in modern design are neutrals, black, white, accentuated by bold statement colors such as blue, red, and yellows. The walls are often white. Embedded within the design is the use of geometric shapes, circles, ovals, squares, rectangles, smooth even curves.

Is your environment neat and tidy with everything in it’s place? Or is there a little clutter here, a little there. In my opinion, our minds need organization and neatness in order for us to function at full capacity. Just like our thoughts need to be purged and categorized into their proper place so do our things.
