Jul 24, 2013 9:52:00 AM

Do you ever get tired of the colors of your environment?  Are you tired of creams, beiges, and grays?  I understand, especially in the Spring and Summer when you want to break out and live lively.  Why not bring in some color to your surroundings?  Have you ever noticed how pretty and bright colors make you feel happy?  Just seeing colors such as orange, blue, yellow, red, green, and purple can enliven your outlook.

Yesterday the American Journal of Pediatrics came out with a study about emergency room visits because of TV accidents.  It has been reported that during a 20 year period from 1990 – 2011, falling televisions sent nearly 200,000 children to the emergency room.  From 2008-2011, there were 106,800.  Of these injuries:

We all want value when it comes to making big purchasing decisions.  We want style, glamour, beauty, and design elegance.  We also want versatility and the ability to change our minds if we feel the inclination.  That is why designing with white is so much easier.  We can change the look and feel of our rooms just by making minor adjustments to our accessories.  You may even be the type of person that likes to change their color schemes every season.  With our tulip table and chairs you can do just that.

Four Great Furniture Designers

Jul 15, 2013 9:37:49 AM

Modern Design is a style that was created in the 1920’s – 1950’s.  Modern design or Mid-Century design, involves clean and sleek interiors that are clutter free.  The design is all about geometrical shapes and curvilinear lines in the architecture, furniture, art, and accessories.  The colors most often used are neutral colors, blacks, whites, and bold colors such as blue, reds, greens, and yellows.

Alternative Window Treatments

Jul 10, 2013 9:52:12 AM

Do you remember how great it is to find something you were not expecting?  Well I have found something that I would like everyone to know as a potential resource to expand their design possibilities.  It may already be well known to others, yet others may not know about this secret that I have found.  I stumbled on it when I went to look for UV film for the windows.  With the window advancements in insulation, many times window treatments are not needed as much to keep the weather conditions outside of your home.  So now it is time to start thinking of alternative window treatments.

Preparing Wood for Staining

Jul 8, 2013 10:27:24 AM

In preparing the wood grain for sanding, first wipe the furniture using a sticky piece cheese cloth, tack cloth or soak a piece of cheese cloth in tung oil in order to get all the dust lifted that is specifically made to attract dirt and dust. Position the piece in a horizontal position so that you can sand in the same direction of the grain. Even though sanding tools make the job go faster, if the piece is an antique it is best to sand by hand. Scratching that is made against the grain will look terrible when stain is applied. Medium and fine grades of sandpaper are used in refinishing furniture and antiques.

Personalizing Your Work Space

Jul 5, 2013 10:01:15 AM

Personalizing your office space can prove beneficial in easing your stress at work. While you don’t want to be audacious, you do want to personalize your work area with sentimental things or items that bring a smile to your face. Consider personalizing a few office supplies such as your stapler, rulers, organization tools, calendar, pictures, mantra’s or sayings that you believe strongly about. You can also personalize your space with a plant or two. Maybe you can bring in a small bulletin board and place it in your workspace to remind you of what is important to you. Your pictures will also help remind you of why you are working in the first place, to provide for yourself and your family.

Finding Design Inspiration

Jul 3, 2013 9:52:09 AM

Search engines are the best ways to find design ideas, especially with the images function. The key to design, inspiration, and creativity is to feed your brain with as many quality images and look outward for inspiration. Sometimes you will get an epiphany, but in my experience, the more one exposes themselves to other ideas, the easier it is to synthesize one’s own ideas. Not everyone is ingenious to think up things out of the blue, sometimes we just need a little kick start. Conceptualization comes when it comes. You could be taking a shower or walking the dog and all of a sudden the answer you have been trying to figure out comes to you.
