Happy Birthday, America!  Fourth of July is upon us which means the BBQs are firing up, the swimming pools are being put to good use and picnic food is aplenty.  Of course, there are firework stands as far as the eye can see.  Those boxes filled with sparklers, ground bloom flowers and fountain fireworks may look appealing, but be warned: it is a huge risk!  Mishandling (err, handling for that matter) even the smallest of fireworks can be deadly to yourself and others.  It is best to leave the star spangled sky glitter to the professionals.  With that being said, there are plenty of events and activities to participate in this Independence Day holiday.  Here are a few 4th of July events that are safe and fun!

Los Angeles, California

If you are in the Los Angeles area, why not check out the heart of Downtown LA’s 4th of July Block Party?  The most spectacular roof top fireworks can be seen from all over the city and attendees can enjoy music of all genres on three different stages.  Plus, there will be a whole lot of food trucks to crave the hunger in you.

New York, New York

If you are in New York, The Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular is where it’s at.  With fireworks shooting from the East River, this spectacular sight can be viewed from an unobstructed view of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn.  The pyrotechnics are professionally choreographed and features a musical score made up of both classic and patriotic favorites performed by award winning artists.  The event is FREE and there are no tickets sold.

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago’s Freedom Fest hits all the points-great BBQ to satisfy your hunger, a full bar for the adults and a live DJ!  This cool even takes place on the Navy Pier’s Rooftop, which is also the best place to observe the windy city’s spectacular fireworks show when the sun sets.  It does not get any better than watching fireworks over Lake Michigan!
