Okay it is time to make design just a little more interesting. I found a design website that as a marketing tool allows people to enter design contests. This particular one was open to anyone. The informal design competition was on designshuffle.com. I think the competition is over; however, it got me thinking that there must be a gamut more design competitions out there yet to be uncovered. So I did a preliminary quick search and found 3 professional competitions. The first one I found was the Benjamin Moore Hue Awards 2014. The award is given in recognition of the exceptional use of color in architecture and interior design. Since establishing the Hue awards in 2005, Benjamin Moore has presented more than 160,000 in prize money in both contract and residential exteriors and interiors. This competition gives even more opportunities and categories to enter. The deadline for this one is August 18, 2013. Visit SBID, UK for more information. The Dwell Vision Award 2013 is the next competition on my list. Dwell Magazine is looking for projects that incorporate several design disciplines, the use of sustainable materials and methods and work demonstrating a dedication to helping people through good design. They are offering one winner to receive an editorial spread in Dwell magazine including a studio profile & project feature. All 3 finalists will be featured in Dwell and honored in New York at a VIP Awards Celebration to announce the winner. The deadline for this competition is August 30, 2013. The company will award the winner with a full-page spread in Architectural Record as well as a making of a documentary that tells the story of the designer’s work with LucitLux. The documentary will debut at an exclusive screening party at the site of the installation this fall. The goal of the competition of course is the best use of their products in a design. To be eligible the work should have been done between 2011- 2013. The deadline for this competition is September 27, 2013.
