Bigger isn't Better

Feb 6, 2014 2:58:40 PM

We've all heard the cliche "Bigger is Better"

Well who ever coined that phrase obviously wasn't speaking about furniture. Sure, we all like to have our personal space when lazily lounging on the sofa, but does mass really dictate quality?

Space Planning & Perspective

Nov 11, 2013 10:26:55 AM

I think of my room as my little studio.  I have my bed, my living room, and my office within one place.  It is quite cozy.  Creating and reinventing your bedroom or any room for that matter can be a good thing.  I find that it helps bring in the new and aids in keeping you motivated by enabling you to see possibilities.  Sometimes life can feel stagnate, and you just need a change, even a little change will do. It is really a matter of perspective.

Warding Off The Blues This Season

Oct 23, 2013 9:36:01 AM

Wow, it sure is gloomy outside in Los Angeles today.  This is the time of year when we tend to slow down and stay indoors and become more sedentary.  It is also a time when the weather affects our moods a little, some more than others in a more adverse way.  It is time to remedy the situation by adding more light to your décor.  Now mind you, you don’t necessarily have to go out and buy expensive lighting and hire a lighting designer to specify mood lighting.  I mean you can if you want to and have the means, however you can just go to your local thrift store and purchase additional table lamps.  Yes you will be using a little more electricity, well not if you use the cfl’s but you will be proactive in warding off the blue’s.

Creating Warmth This Time of Year

Oct 18, 2013 10:04:02 AM

Depending on where you live in the country it is going to start getting cold and gloomy very soon.  It is time to make preparations for the cold, such as bringing in those winter clothes and heavy blankets from the garage or deep inside your closet.   If you have a working fireplace then you are blessed.  Hey, you know they sell decorative fireplaces now right?  That is not too bad of an idea to include, something to think about in addition to turning on the heater.

Are you wild about a particular design in a fabric, wallpaper, or other material?  Do you need a little extra something to add to your design to pull all of your elements together?  Then why not add a little of your creative talents and create your own custom designed room screen or room divider?  It is pretty easy, anyone can do it.  First you need to know how to construct a simple frame.  I have two instructional videos that I pulled from youtube.

Plan Your Room Out

Sep 16, 2013 9:44:58 AM

Get rid of things you don’t need or use.  Reduce, reduce, and reduce some more.  If you have to keep it because of sentimental value store it in the garage or attic.

Make a collage of pictures that speak to you.  You can do this with magazines or online on Pintrest or Houzz.com.  Make a list of the elements that you would like in the room like the type of fabrics, materials and paint colors that speak to you. You are not copying anyone.  You will use this to find out how you want your end result to look like.  It helps with vision.

Resource For DIY Projects

Aug 23, 2013 10:01:06 AM

Are you stuck with a design problem?  Do you want to save money on Do It Yourself projects?  All you have to do is look no further than your computer.  You Tube is full of people sharing what they know.  Why would people share their ideas?  I think it comes with the gratefulness of solving their own concerns and they just want other people to be able to do for themselves as well.
