As the school year is quickly coming to an end, I have been thinking of ways to properly thank those courageous souls who dedicate their lives to teaching my children. An apple for the teacher just doesn’t cut the mustard these days so every year I look for a unique and special way to let them know how much they mean to my family. I have a child in middle school, elementary school and preschool so finding unique gift ideas can be time consuming. I have come up with some EZ solutions for teacher gifts and will let you in on my findings.

This past weekend we honored those who fought and gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Commonly people do this by attending parades, visiting cemeteries and gathering with family. My father in law is a Vietnam veteran and he spoke at a local ceremony in which he talked about “Heroes” and what that term means to people today as well as what it means to those who are considered heroes. What is a hero? It means different things to different people, that’s for sure.

As the school year is quickly coming to an end I have started to realize that soon my three kids Marissa (13), Matthew (11) and Maddox (3) will be free to roam aimlessly about the house all summer while I am at work. Sure, my husband who is a work at home dad will be there and he is amazing, don’t get me wrong. But it has got me thinking about ways to fill their days with activities, fun and inspiration. A great way to start is to do a little room redecorating to inspire them to use their own spaces to entertain themselves.

Boy Scouts use “be prepared” as their motto and it is a good one, along with my personal favorite “prepare for the worst and hope for the best”. But are we really prepared? Recently we had a power outage here at my office and slowly my coworkers and I came to realize how much we rely on power to fuel our daily activities. Simple things, like having a light in the bathroom and a microwave to heat up your lunch are luxuries we surely do take for granted. We ended up closing early that day because all of our work relies on power of some kind. It makes you think what would happen if it was more than just a simple power outage. Are you prepared for an event that could alter our lives in such a way that we would need to rethink the way we do the things we don’t usually think about doing?

Most of us have heard the saying, “That’s the best thing since sliced bread!” What do you think is actually the best thing since sliced bread? I actually borrowed this question from an article on Wordpress I was reading to get some ideas about what interesting things I could write about in my blog. I think it’s a great question. Everyone has different ideas about what the best thing is and I want to explore my best of the best list with you.

After a surviving a long dull and drab winter Mother Nature rewards us with the warm colors of springtime, the fresh, bright colors of summer and then the rich, deep colors of fall. Nature is the original master of color and all the beauty that comes with it. Color can have a unique effect of our daily lives and how we feel. Mothers come in all shapes and sizes, be it you biological mom, your step mom, adoptive mom, mother in law, godmother, auntie, grandmother or just someone who mothers you…….one day just doesn’t seem like enough to honor them for all they do for you. Being a mom myself I may be a little bias but knowing first-hand what it takes to do this amazing (and sometimes thankless) job, I want to share what we moms are really hoping for this Mother’s Day.
