My husband, what would I do without him? There are many times I ask myself this question, but really? What would I do without him?? The thought is terrifying. After returning to the work force after being a stay at home mom for ten years I admittedly didn’t think he could handle the pressure of being a work at home/stay at home dad. As much as I hate to admit it he has proven me wrong, very wrong, as wrong as those crazy folk who thought the Titanic was unsinkable. Here is my public ode to all those husbands out there that step up and dare to go where some men fear to tread like the kitchen, laundry room and the grocery store

The Mid-Century modern style craze has been increasingly gaining popularity again as the baby boomers are now hitting retirement age, selling off households of mid century modern furniture and downsizing to smaller homes and condos. This combined with the world of entertainment featuring the mid-century modern style on TV shows like Mad Men and movies like Pixar’s The Incredibles. This makes for a great opportunity for the next generation of hipsters to jump on the stylistic bandwagon and create their own buzz in the modern furniture world.

When I met my husband, I could see right away he would make for an amazing dad someday. All it took was seeing him with his cat, Roxy. She was the queen of his apartment and Roxy let me know that indisputable fact as soon as I met her. My husband surely treated her like a queen and I could see his loving and caring personality shine in his love for Roxy. Sixteen years and three kids later, he is a remarkable dad, I was right. This Sunday we honor our dads, grandpa’s, stepdads, and other father figures in our lives with Father’s Day. Such an important figure in our lives deserves a day to relax and just be appreciated for all they do for us. Here are some EZ and memorable ways to celebrate.

As the school year is quickly coming to an end, I have been thinking of ways to properly thank those courageous souls who dedicate their lives to teaching my children. This past weekend we honored those who fought and gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Commonly people do this by attending parades, visiting cemeteries and gathering with family. My father in law is a Vietnam veteran and he spoke at a local ceremony in which he talked about “Heroes” and what that term means to people today as well as what it means to those who are considered heroes. What is a hero? It means different things to different people, that’s for sure.

As the school year is quickly coming to an end I have started to realize that soon my three kids Marissa (13), Matthew (11) and Maddox (3) will be free to roam aimlessly about the house all summer while I am at work. Sure, my husband who is a work at home dad will be there and he is amazing, don’t get me wrong. But it has got me thinking about ways to fill their days with activities, fun and inspiration. A great way to start is to do a little room redecorating to inspire them to use their own spaces to entertain themselves.

Boy Scouts use “be prepared” as their motto and it is a good one, along with my personal favorite “prepare for the worst and hope for the best”. But are we really prepared? Recently we had a power outage here at my office and slowly my coworkers and I came to realize how much we rely on power to fuel our daily activities. Simple things, like having a light in the bathroom and a microwave to heat up your lunch are luxuries we surely do take for granted. We ended up closing early that day because all of our work relies on power of some kind. It makes you think what would happen if it was more than just a simple power outage. Are you prepared for an event that could alter our lives in such a way that we would need to rethink the way we do the things we don’t usually think about doing?
