Do you remember how great it is to find something you were not expecting? Well I have found something that I would like everyone to know as a potential resource to expand their design possibilities. It may already be well known to others, yet others may not know about this secret that I have found. I stumbled on it when I went to look for UV film for the windows. With the window advancements in insulation, many times window treatments are not needed as much to keep the weather conditions outside of your home. So now it is time to start thinking of alternative window treatments.

In preparing the wood grain for sanding, first wipe the furniture using a sticky piece cheese cloth, tack cloth or soak a piece of cheese cloth in tung oil in order to get all the dust lifted that is specifically made to attract dirt and dust. Position the piece in a horizontal position so that you can sand in the same direction of the grain. Even though sanding tools make the job go faster, if the piece is an antique it is best to sand by hand. Scratching that is made against the grain will look terrible when stain is applied. Medium and fine grades of sandpaper are used in refinishing furniture and antiques.

Personalizing your office space can prove beneficial in easing your stress at work. While you don’t want to be audacious, you do want to personalize your work area with sentimental things or items that bring a smile to your face. Consider personalizing a few office supplies such as your stapler, rulers, organization tools, calendar, pictures, mantra’s or sayings that you believe strongly about. You can also personalize your space with a plant or two. Maybe you can bring in a small bulletin board and place it in your workspace to remind you of what is important to you. Your pictures will also help remind you of why you are working in the first place, to provide for yourself and your family.

Search engines are the best ways to find design ideas, especially with the images function. The key to design, inspiration, and creativity is to feed your brain with as many quality images and look outward for inspiration. Sometimes you will get an epiphany, but in my experience, the more one exposes themselves to other ideas, the easier it is to synthesize one’s own ideas. Not everyone is ingenious to think up things out of the blue, sometimes we just need a little kick start. Conceptualization comes when it comes. You could be taking a shower or walking the dog and all of a sudden the answer you have been trying to figure out comes to you.

If you have limited space like most of us in your home I know having ample storage space is a problem. It is especially harder if you lived in your home for a decade or more when the collection of things that you hoped would prove useful someday ends up taking up space more than it is useful. Sentimental items, once valuable things that you have hoped you would fix one day but you haven’t had the time, seasonal items, seasonal clothing, all take up valuable space.

Okay it is time to make design just a little more interesting. I found a design website that as a marketing tool allows people to enter design contests. This particular one was open to anyone. The informal design competition was on designshuffle.com.

Who new that some cleaners can be harmful or detrimental to your beautiful Lucite or Acrylic furniture? Well it is common sense not to use bathroom cleanser on your acrylic pieces but not to use glass cleaner? According to many manufacturers of acrylic pieces ammonia, cleansers, window cleaner, and 409 all should be avoided.

Charles-Edourd Jeanneret-Gris was born in Switzerland in Oct. 6, 1887 and moved to Paris in 1917. He used Le Corbusier as a pseudonym from that point forward. He came from parents that were artists themselves. When Charles-Edourd Jeanneret-Gris was 13 he left home to attend De Coratifs Et La Chaux-de Fonds and learned the art of enameling and engraving watch faces like his father.
