Tulip Side Chair Black
Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956, this functional work of art represents the most important classics in modern furniture history in miniature scale of 1:6. It featured a sculptural continuous seat and back which rested on a curved tapered base that became a key character trait of the pedestal series. The chair is often considered "space age" for its futuristic use of curves and artificial materials. The design was popularized by its use on the original Star Trek television series (1966-69).
Our inspired commercial-grade reproduction features a ABS seat and aluminum base, and a removable upholstered fabric seat for added comfort. The contrast between the stark white of this chair base and the cool black of the seat cushion will excite your living space. The upholstered foam cushion is removable with Velcro fastening. The upholstered foam cushion is removable with Velcro fastening. Saarinen's tulip chair won the prestigious Museum of Modern Art Award in 1969, the Federal Award for Industrial Design in 1969 as well as the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1962.

About Eero Saarinen
Eero Saarinenwas a Finnish American architect and product designer of the 20th century famous for varying his style according to the demands of the project: simple, sweeping, arching structural curves or machine-like rationalism. Saarinen emigrated to the United States of America in 1923 when he was thirteen years old. He grew up within the community of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where his father taught.
Saarinen designed many important pieces of furniture including the "Womb" chair and ottoman (1948), the "Womb" settee (1950), side and arm chairs (1948-1950), and his most famous "Tulip" or "Pedestal" group (1956), which featured side and arm chairs, dining, coffee and side tables, as well as a stool. His Womb chair and ottoman, as well as his"Tulip" collection, have remained in production and are considered iconic.
